Project Title: Training of members of the Mentoring System through the Mentoring FAN

Researcher: Julia Pryce, Ph.D.

Introduction:

You are being asked to take part in a research study being conducted by Julia Pryce, Ph.D. a faculty member in the School of Social Work at Loyola University of Chicago.

You are being asked to participate in the evaluation of the Mentoring FAN training, based on your participation in this training. We are asking everyone who participates in the training to complete a brief survey prior to, and three and nine months following, the training to assess the impact of the training on your skills and experience as a mentor. Please read this form carefully before deciding to participate in the study.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential impact of the Mentoring FAN training on mentor skills.

Procedures:

If you agree to be in the study, you will be asked to:

  • Complete a brief survey (5 -7 minutes to complete) focused on mentor skills and attitudes. Three months and six months following your completion of the training, this brief survey will be sent to you again to complete voluntarily.
  • All mentors participating in this training will be invited to voluntarily and confidentially complete this survey.
  • At the conclusion of the training, participants have the opportunity to share their email address if they would like to learn about more trainings like this to develop their skills in attunement and the Mentoring FAN. Of note, their email will remain separate from their response to the survey and will not be associated with it. Should they decide to participate in additional training, they will be eligible to receive a $25 gift card as a thank you for their participation.

Risks/Benefits:

We anticipate that your participation in this survey presents no greater risk than everyday use of the Internet.

There are no direct benefits to you from participation, but participation in this research will help develop the knowledge regarding ways to train and support mentors.

Confidentiality:

Information will be kept confidential, and data will be coded so that no names appear on any questionnaires. Instead, surveys will be associated with a subject number.

No one beside members of the research team will have access to the data, and data will be sent from Mentor Canada to the researcher using a password protected format.

Voluntary Participation:

Participation in this study is voluntary.  If you do not want to be in this study, you do not have to participate.  Even if you decide to participate, you are free not to answer any question or to withdraw from participation at any time without penalty. Participation will in no way impact services or opportunities available through Mentor Canada.
